One Family's Story
August 2003
Miracles do happen and our son is living proof.
We were led to Michael beginning March 2001, when we were told by doctors that we had a small chance of conceiving with the assistance of some new and risky procedures. We had already experienced five miscarriages, so we were unsure of what to do. We turned it over to God and prayed that he would give us a sign. That same week we received a magazine about adoption in the mail. The magazine was addressed to another family in another neighborhood. The postal service's "mistake" we knew was our sign.
So we proceeded with adoption. We did lots of research and talked to people experienced with adoption. After a few months, we selected Adoption Services Associates in San Antonio. The people there were extremely kind and helpful. The paperwork and home study took a few months to complete, but in August of 2001, we were approved.
By December we were chosen by a birth mother due in May, but unfortunately that adoption didn't work out. We had started to fee uncomfortable about this birth mother, but we didn't want to admit it. We were amazed when an A.S.A. counselor called and told us that she had this feeling, too. Since we had only been matched for six weeks, she saved us a lot of heartache. While we were upset, we had faith that God had a baby for us.
Then, in February, we were matched with another birth mother due at the end of June. Close to the birth mother's due date, we learned that this match would also not work out. The agency social workers were sympathetic and understanding. Our family, friends, and church family were extremely supportive, too. We knew that there was a baby out there for us, but were disheartened because we kept getting our hopes up and then were disappointed.
Then on Bobby's birthday, July 22nd, we got a call from A.S.A. They asked us if we wanted to pick up a baby boy that was five days old. The next day, we were in shock as we drove to San Antonio. We had only told a couple of people about the baby because we almost couldn't believe it. But we believed when they placed him in our arms. We believed even more when they actually let us take this tiny baby home with us.
As soon as we finished signing the paperwork, we began calling family and friends, who were as shocked as we were. Michael was greeted with so much joy by everyone we knew.
So now we are the proud parents of our sweet boy - the one that was promised to us by God.
